Alice Webley Folland Swensen, age 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 24, 2001 in Salt Lake City, after a brief battle with leukemia.
Alice was born August 9, 1923 in Ogden, UT to Robert and Alice Folland. On June 1, 1945, she married Paul Lorenzo Swensen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Alice graduated from East High School. She spent 56 wonderful years with her spouse. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in all the major callings of the church auxiliaries. She served a mission with her husband in the England Leeds Mission, and she was a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for 34 years, serving as the secretary of the choir for an additional 11 years. Alice was an active member of her community, serving as PTA president, and she and her husband had been serving on the Temple Square Concert Series Committee. She enjoyed singing, needle-point, craft work, and watching BYU sports. Her family was the joy of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Alice is survived by her husband, Paul of Salt Lake; five children, Marjorie (Robert) Whitchurch of Salt Lake, Robert Paul (Julie) Swensen of Salt Lake, Ruth (Kim) Stoddard of West Bountiful, Ann (Scott) Sweeney of Alpine, and Shirley (Richard, Jr.) Turley of Taylorsville; 28 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Shelby Lewis Folland of Anaconda, MT. Preceded in death by one grandchild, Steven Scott Sweeney; one great-grandchild, Kayleigh Anne Whitchurch; three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on Sat., July 28, 2001 at 12 noon at the East Millcreek 9th Ward, 3750 S. Hillside Lane (2600 East). Friends may call Friday evening, from 6-8 p.m., at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 E., and at the church on Sat. from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
