SANDY — A fast-moving fire caused a minimum $50,000 damage Friday to a house at 11000 South and 55 East.
A woman smelled smoke while taking a shower just before noon, said Sandy Fire Battalion Chief Greg Rynders. The woman got out of the shower, saw a fire behind the house and called the fire department.
The fire was extremely hot and fast-moving, Rynders said. It was fueled by a woodpile sitting on the back deck. The fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen, the back deck and most areas on the first floor, he said.
Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen but were still looking for a specific cause Friday afternoon.
