ST. GEORGE — A motorcyclist was killed after a car slammed head-on into his bike Monday.

Killed was:

Charles S. Weirick, 43, Central, Washington County.

About 7 a.m. a small car driven by a Santa Clara woman was traveling north on U-18 in the Dameron Valley, about 10 miles north of St. George, when the car drifted off the right side of the road, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jim Lloyd said.

The woman overcorrected to the left and skidded into the south lane, where Weirick was driving, Lloyd said.

Weirick apparently saw the car coming and hit the brakes, locking them and skidding into the right emergency lane where he was hit by the car, Lloyd said.

Weirick was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene, Lloyd said. The woman driving the car was wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries. She was transported to Dixie Medical Center. An infant in the car was in a child seat and was not hurt. The accident is still under investigation, Lloyd said.
