SHARE Icelandic Days salutes town’s Nordic pioneers

SPANISH FORK — A Viking Run will kick off Iceland Days Aug. 4 and 5.

Sponsored by the Icelandic Association of Utah, Iceland Days celebrates the immigrants from Iceland who came to Spanish Fork beginning in the 1850s.

Icelandic Days will be held at Canyon View Park.

Saturday events include:

8 a.m. 5K Viking Run

9 a.m. Golf tournament

Noon - Icelandic Days registration.

1 p.m. - Opening ceremonies and short business meeting.

1:30 p.m. - General activities and displays.

2:30 p.m. - Honoring association members Lil Shepherd and Joy Christmas, named Icelandic heritage honorees for 2001.

3 p.m. - Program and drawing for gifts.

4 p.m. - Lamb dinner.

A fireside is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 5, at the First Ward Chapel, 300 East and Center Street, with speakers Daniel H. Ludlow and Icelandic returned LDS missionaries Tyler Shepherd, Sterling Brodniak and Ray and Sally Anderson.
