Brett Tolman, who joined the U.S. Attorney's Office in Utah last August, will receive an award from the Department of Justice Wednesday in Washington, D.C., recognizing his outstanding contributions as a new employee.

Tolman helped launch a successful new firearms reduction initiative, according to the office's spokeswoman, Melodie Rydalch.

The initiative targets convicted felons or other restricted persons who, under federal law, are prohibited from possessing firearms. So far 47 defendants have been sentenced as part of the initiative with sentences ranging from about two years to more than 10.
