Wilford John Johansen, age 89, passed away Sunday, July 1st at his home in Salt Lake City.
Born in Oslo, Norway on December 10, 1911, he was the third oldest of eight children of Karl Johan and Thea Fredrikka Nielsen Johansen. Married Astrid Larsen 1936 in Oslo, Norway. They had two sons, Roy and Terry Johansen.
Growing up in Oslo, Wilford enjoyed skiing and excelled in soccer and boxing. In 1948, after the war, Wilford, his wife Astrid, his two sons and his parents immigrated to the United States settling in Salt Lake. Wilford was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Millcreek 17th Ward. He worked for 25 years for Interstate Brick.
In his latter days he enjoyed watching sports on television and was excited to have the Olympics come to Salt Lake City in 2002.
Wilford enjoyed getting together with his family and will be missed by his wife Astrid of 65 years, his sons, Roy (Denise) Johansen, Park City; Terry (Arlene) Johansen, Midvale; his seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, his sister Lilly (Hakon) Lovestad, brothers, Einar (Kari) Johansen, Armand (Hilder) Johansen, Rolf (Lorraine) Johansen, sister-in-law Ingrid Johansen, brother-in-law, Einar Hadel. Preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marvel Hadel, brothers Alf and Paul.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 6, 2001 at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 S. Highland Dr., where friends may call from 9-9:45 prior to services Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
