HYANNIS, Mass. (AP) — Eunice Kennedy Shriver was hospitalized today with a broken leg after a head-on car collision.

The 79-year-old sister of the late President John F. Kennedy was in good condition after surgery following the accident Thursday afternoon, said Cape Cod Hospital spokeswoman Deborah Dougherty. Shriver also suffered minor cuts to her forehead.

Police say Shriver was driving west on Route 28 in Hyannis when a pickup truck turned and struck her 1986 Jeep Cherokee head-on. The truck's driver, Jonathan Swearinger, 20, of Marianna, Fla., was cited for making an illegal turn. He was not injured. Shriver was cited for not wearing her seatbelt and driving a vehicle with expired registration.
