TOOELE — Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, was recognized Thursday for his efforts to house Olympic workers and turn the dwellings into permanent homes for low-income families on three Indian reservations.
Bennett helped secure $2 million for the Utah Housing Finance Agency through Housing and Urban Development to purchase and ship 42 four-bedroom manufactured homes to Utah for the 2002 Winter Olympics.
The Salt Lake Organizing Committee will lease land near Heber City for the homes. After May 2002, 38 homes will be shipped to Ute (Fort Duchesne), Ute Mountain Ute and Navajo reservations.
The remaining four will benefit Options for Independent Living, which serves disabled residents.
