SALEM — After an eight-hour search Friday, the body of a Payson man who drowned while swimming at Salem Pond on Thursday was recovered.

According to Salem Police, 28-year-old James "Jimmy" Stotlar was seen swimming with his family just after 6 p.m. Thursday.

When Stotlar did not surface, family members contacted police. Salem police and fire crews immediately took to the water, but after a three-hour search with divers, dogs and a helicopter, there was no sign of the man.

According to Salem Police Sgt. James Bird, the search was called off overnight with fire and ambulance crews staying on scene. After spending five hours Friday morning, Stotlar's body was recovered after 11 a.m.

Utah County Search and Rescue Sgt. Tom Hodgson said divers discovered the man's body 62 feet from shore in about 15 feet of water.
