Those planning to participate in the 32nd annual Deseret News/Granite Furniture marathon on July 24 are reminded that transportation to the starting line near Mountain Dell golf course will be provided until 3:45 a.m.

Because vehicles are not allowed to be parked at the marathon starting area, shuttle buses will begin picking up runners at 3:15 a.m. at two locations — the Delta Center, 300 West and South Temple, and Rice Stadium at the University of Utah, in the west parking lot. Runners can leave their vehicles there and will be transported up Parley's Canyon to the starting area. The marathon begins at 5:15 a.m., with the last shuttle bus leaving both locations at 3:45 a.m.

After the race, return shuttles from Liberty Park will run continuously to both areas from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. You can board the buses at the east side of Liberty Park along 700 East.

Runners can place their warm ups or jogging suits in plastic bags that will be provided for them at the starting line. Your name should be written clearly on the bag, and bags will be shuttled to the finish and placed in the information area at Liberty Park. You'll need your bib number to reclaim your bag.

As always, the DesNews/Granite Furniture marathon and 10K have a number of categories and age divisions, including 11 years old & under, 12-14, 15-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70 and up. There is also a Clydesdale division for men over 200 pounds and women over 150 pounds, along with wheelchair and masters divisions (40 years and over).

The Deseret News will have results of top finishers in the Pioneer Day races in our edition that afternoon, and a complete listing of all finishers in our July 25 edition. Registration fees are $30 for the marathon, $18 for the 10K, and $12 for the 5K Fitness Walk ($5 for those 10 and under). Proceeds benefit the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program and the Shriners Hospital for Children.

You can register until July 17 at any of the four Granite Furniture locations along the Wasatch Front, or until July 13 at the Deseret News, 30 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, or at Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation, 3060 S. Lester Street, West Valley City, at the Redwood Recreation Center. You can also register and get information online at www.desnews.com/run.
