PROVO, Utah — An 8-foot statue of Brigham Young was unveiled Monday, July 2, 2001, at Academy Square, the historic former campus of Brigham Young University.

The unveiling gave visitors a chance to see how work has progressed in renovating the historic Academy Square Education Building into a new city library. L. Douglas Smoot, Brigham Young Academy Foundation library project chairman, said the work is nearly complete.

The old city library closed July 6. The ribbon cutting for Academy Square could be July 26, 27 or 28 depending on last-minute finishing touches. Grand opening festivities are planned for Sept. 8.
