SPANISH FORK — Rocking H Construction Co. will build the city's new skate park, coming in with the low bid of $99,200.

The City Council awarded the contract on Tuesday even though the bid exceeded the $85,000 budgeted by the city.

The new skate park will be modeled after a skate park in Roy, also built by Rocking H, officials said.

Last May, the city received only two replies when it first put the project out for bid. The bids were for $145,000 and $254,000.

The skate facility will go in a city park across from Spanish Fork Junior High.

Nebo School District officials have expressed concern because of the proximity to the school. Skateboards are banned at all public schools in Spanish Fork. However, the district supports the city's effort to provide services for youths, spokeswoman Francis Larsen said.
