Minnie LaVon Reed Hewitson, 95, died August 22, 2001 in Orem, Utah.
Born October 26, 1905 in Nephi, Utah to John Alvus and Mary Lily Smith Reed. Married Thomas Mark Hewitson Decem-ber 31, 1926 in Salt Lake City, UT. Marriage later solemnized in the Provo LDS Temple. They were married 65 years before he died on January 2, 1992.
LaVon was raised in Rockport, Utah, spent a few years in Salt Lake City, where she worked and graduated from East High School. Moved to Park City after her marriage and has resided there since. Her home was always the gathering place for her family and her siblings and their families. She enjoyed reading and writing poetry. One of her poems was published in World Treasury of Great Poems, Who's Who in Poetry. She especially enjoyed quilting, crocheting and tatting. All will remember her beautiful tatted handkerchiefs. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served well. She especially enjoyed her service with the Beehive girls in both Stake and Ward, and in the Ward Relief Society and Primary Presidency.
Survived by children: Reed and Donnette Hewitson, Ken and Mandy Hewitson, Bill and Darlene Hewitson, all of Salt Lake; Shirley and Guy Olpin, Heber City; Dorothy and Ken Foster, Orem; Jim Hewitson, Lehi; 20 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; sisters: Ima Buchanon, Orem, and LaRene (Dean) Sweat, Center Creek; sister-in-law, Vera Reed, Midway.
Funeral services Saturday, August 25, 2001, 11 a.m. in the Park City Ward Chapel, 2300 Monitor Drive, Park City, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Park City Cemetery.
