CUPERTINO, Calif. (AP) — Apple Computer Inc. said it will cut the price of its Titanium PowerBook G4.

Starting today, the company said the price will be $2,199 for the 400-megahertz model and $2,999 for the 500-megahertz model, a price drop of $400 and $500, respectively.

"It's been a popular model since we introduced it in January, but we just want to offer our customers a better value for a great product," said Apple spokeswoman Natalie Sequeira.

She would not say whether the reductions were a result of a competitive pricing environment, or a typical move made before the introduction of a new model.
