Daniel Summerhays, who made it to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur this week, will play in next week's PGA Tour's Buy.com Utah Classic at Willow Creek Country Club.
Summerhays was awarded one of two sponsor's exemptions for the tournament, which features the future stars of the PGA Tour. The other exemption will go to Willow Creek head pro Eric Nielsen.
The 17-year-old Summerhays, who won his second Men's State Amateur title this summer, will be the first amateur to compete in the Utah Classic in the tournament's two-year history and will also be its youngest player ever.
"As an executive committee, we've evaluated many of the players who applied for a sponsor's exemption," explained Buy.com Utah Classic Tournament Executive Director Evan Byers.
"We looked at what Daniel has accomplished in the last year and felt he would be a great player to have in our field. We are truly honored that he accepted the invitation."
Summerhays' older brother, Boyd, played as an amateur when the Buy.com Tour had a tournament at Provo's Riverside Country Club in 1995 as did West Bountiful's Scott Hailes. Both players missed the cut, however.
The Utah Classic begins Aug. 30 and runs through Sept. 2 at Willow Creek.
