Vice President Dick Cheney's one-day trip today to Salt Lake City and Boise meets the definition of "whirlwind."
Cheney is to speak at 11 a.m. at the Utah Republican Convention in the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy. The speech to the convention has been protested by a small faction of gun rights advocates, who have criticized Cheney and the Secret Service for not allowing legal concealed weapons to be brought into the hall during his speech.
At noon, Cheney will participate in the groundbreaking for the Huntsman Cancer Research Hospital at the University of Utah. He is expected to meet briefly with state Republican leaders.
Following his Utah appearances, Cheney will fly to Boise, where he will visit the National Interagency Fire Center at 3:45 p.m. He subsequently will address supporters of Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, at 5 p.m.
Admission to the Republican Convention speech is $5 per person and is open to the public.
