For Vangie Flater, Brigham Young University's Campus Education Week is a chance to step away from life's rigors and "add more depth to my testimony."

The Hanford, Calif., native joined a reported 25,000 others on campus Aug. 20-24 for a week of fun, education, friendship and spiritual development. This year's Campus Education Week marks the 79th gathering of the popular event and is something of a weeklong birthday party for the school's namesake. The 200th anniversary of Brigham Young's birth was a central theme evident throughout many of the week's numerous workshops and lectures.

Church members from almost every state and several countries participated in Campus Education Week. Sister Flater, a registered nurse, spent a week's worth of vacation to participate. It was time well spent.

"I've been waiting to go for the past four years," said Sister Flater, who planned to spend most of her time in scripture-themed workshops — along with some light-hearted lectures.
