Peering from beneath workers is one of the first sunstones installed on the Nauvoo Illinois Temple Aug. 20. By the afternoon of Aug. 21, eight of a total of 30 sunstones had been placed on the temple, said project administrator Ronald Prince. Carved from limestone, the sunstones are the work of a number of artisans in Newcastle, Pa.; Bedford, Ind.; Toronto, Ontario; and Owen Sound, Ontario. The sunstones are a distinctive architectural feature of both the original 1846 temple and the new one. The new temple is expected to be structurally complete by early next year.
