Getting there: There are flights by U.S. Air, Delta, Northwest and American Airlines to the Chattanooga, Tenn., airport, but most visitors seem to arrive in RVs, tour buses or automobiles. If you fly into Chattanooga, a rental car or tour bus will be necessary to get to Rock City, which is about a 15-minute drive from the city.

Drivers can reach Rock City on I-75 from Atlanta or Knoxville, Tenn., I-24 from Nashville, Tenn., or I-59 from Birmingham, Ala. All the interstates connect with I-24 in Chattanooga. On I-24 East exit at 174. On I-24 West, exit at 178. After both exits, follow signs to Rock City.

Lodging: There are many hotels and motels along the interstates, ranging from budget to upscale. There are also numerous campgrounds, RV parks and bed-and-breakfast inns.
