Auditions have been scheduled for several upcoming regional stage productions.

Salt Lake Acting Company will hold auditions on Aug. 28 and 29, noon-4 p.m. both days, for its newly commissioned production "Cabbies, Cowboys and the Tree of the Weeping Virgin: Short Plays by Utah Writers," to be staged Jan. 22-Feb. 24 during the 2002 Winter Olympics. Men and women, both Equity and non-Equity players, are invited to audition. A packet of the plays is available at SLAC for overnight checkout. The auditions will consist of reading from one of the short plays. Auditioners must be familiar with the plays before trying out. Directors of the various plays will be chosen from SLAC's staff.

Bountiful Performing Arts Center is holding auditions on Aug. 28 and 29 at 7 p.m. in the Bountiful/Davis Arts Center, 745 S. Main, for "Once Upon a Mattress." Come prepared to sing and perform a short monologue or scene of your own choice. Bring your own sheet music or recorded music. An accompanist will be available. Four females and six males are needed for the show, plus a chorus. Performances are scheduled in mid-November. For further information, call 294-SHOW (7469).

Weber State University's theater department is holding open auditions to fill the role of one young boy, 10-13 years of age, in a production of Steven Dietz's "God's Country." Those interested should contact Tracy Callahan at 626-7886 to schedule an audition appointment. The drama is centered around the 1983 murder of Denver radio personality Alan Berg by white supremacy extremists. The young boy portrays a neo-Nazi in training. The material is dark and thought-provoking. Parents are advised to read the script with any child interested in auditioning for the role. The rest of the cast will be selected from student auditions at WSU.

The Heritage Community Theatre in Perry will hold auditions on Aug. 28, 5:30-8 p.m., and on Aug. 29 and 30, 6-8 p.m. in the theater, 2505 S. Highway 89, for its upcoming production of "Little Women."
