PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Catholic nun is recovering after being attacked by two pit bulls while walking the convent dog in the school yard, authorities said.

Sister Barbara Koehler pulled the pit bulls from Lindy, an 8-year-old Jack Russell terrier, but the dogs knocked her to the ground and bit her hands and neck.

Sister Janet Dougherty, principal of the Incarnation School, said Koehler was covered with blood from her head to her waist after Friday's attack.

Two men working nearby heard Koehler's screams and scared the dogs off with a stick.

Koehler, 61, was released Saturday from Albert Einstein Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said.
