WILSON, N.C. (AP) — Greg Peavey allowed two runs in five innings and had three hits as Vancouver, Wash., beat Taylorsville 11-7 Saturday to win the 2001 Babe Ruth 13-Under Baseball World Series championship.
Peavey earned the victory in relief of Steve Ames, who allowed five earned runs and didn't make it through the first inning. Peavey allowed five hits, struck out two and walked one. He was also 3-for-3, scored twice and drove in a run.
Taylorsville sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the first inning. The Pacific Southwest Regional champions had six hits and three walks in the inning, but just three hits the rest of the way.
Vancouver, the Pacific Northwest Regional champions, scored one in the bottom of the first, then got seven in the second, including four with two outs. Taylorsville had two errors during the four-run rally and five for the game.
