While the Utah Division of Water Quality continues to test water in the Jordan River, the health advisory issued Wednesday still is in effect.

The division recommends the public not use nor go near water from the Jordan River or surplus canal from 3100 South north to the Great Salt Lake.

The Division of Water Quality and the Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility began taking samples shortly after the wastewater treatment plant began bypassing raw sewage into the Jordan River Wednesday morning. Vernon said results from those samples should be available for review by Monday, but she had no estimate of how long it would take for the river to return to normal.

Public information officer Laura Vernon said she is not aware of anyone coming into contact with the water and becoming ill. "We will continue to sample and review the water until the river returns to normal water quality," she said.
