Ira Lavar Ames, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, passed away peacefully August 25, 2001.
He was born to Charles Winslow Ames and Stena Marie Jorgensen Dec. 11, 1916 in Cleveland, ID. Married Norma Burton, had one son, later divorced. Married Marian Beth Larsen January 22, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have two sons. Raised in "Kids Creek" Cleveland, ID.
Ira "Slivers" played basketball for Thatcher High School in Idaho. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and the outdoors with his family and many friends. Served in the Army during World War II. Worked for Stauffer Chemical as an operator for 24 years. Life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a High Priest, home teacher and held many other church positions.
Survived by his wife of 54 years; sons, Timothy (Sandy) Humphrey, Lindon, UT; Craig (Debbie), Taylorsville, UT; Scott (Linda), West Bountiful, UT; sister, Mauna (James) Hackleman, Brigham City, UT; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, Charles Lewis, Carrie Elizabeth Nance, Neils Owen, Alfred Winslow, Elda and Ivan.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 28, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the LDS 17th Ward, 225 West 500 North, Salt Lake City, UT. Friends may visit Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the ward.
