HEBER CITY, UT-<! > Bernice Elizabeth Simpson, age 98, passed away Wed, August 22, 2001 in Pahrump, NV.
Born December 11, 1902 in Midway, Utah the daughter of Wil-liam and Jean Coleman Alder. She graduated from Wasatch High. Married Squire W. Simp-son in September 1928 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death in December, 1987. Bernice was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having held many callings including Relief Society president, and Primary in both Stake and Ward levels. She and husband, Squire, served a full-time mission in Harrison, Arkansas, in the Oklahoma Mission. She was a member and an officer in the Forget-me-not Camp of the DUP. Her working career began as an operator with the telephone company, then as a clerk with both the Heber Mercantile & Exchange, and later in Vilate's Dress Shop. She won many Blue Ribbons and Sweepstakes for her handwork, and was a judge of handwork at county fairs all over the state. Over the years she designed and built many award-winning floats. She was an excellent cook, and no-one ever went away from her home hungry.
Bernice was well-known for her kindness and generosity to her family and anyone in need. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and will be missed by all of her family because she filled our lives with love, and our hearts with joy.
Survivors include two sons, Jay (Glenna) of Pahrump, NV, and Lowell R. (Sandra) of Salt Lake City; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grand-children. She is preceded in death by both parents; husband, Squire; infant son Russell; daughter, Reve; two brothers, Hugh and Burt; and three sisters, Mable, Odetta and Marjorie.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 28, 2001, 2 p.m. in the Heber LDS 5th Ward Chapel, 150 W 200 N, Heber City. Friends may call on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home, 288 North Main, Heber City, and on Tuesday from 12:45-1:45 p.m. prior to the services at the LDS Chapel. Interment will be in the Heber City Cemetery.
