Many of us lost a terrific friend in Pete Suazo's tragic and untimely death, but all Utahns will miss a wonderful human being from the status senator's passing. After 30 years, I'll always remember a sensitive, intelligent, humorous, independent and fiercely loving family man with an immense energy capacity for work and living life to its fullest.
Pete was the only person I knew who could sometimes be in two places at once. He consistently made time for his family, friends and the community, who also loved him. Impeccable leadership skills gained him the respect and credibility from political colleagues, the media and his constituency. A true role model for us all but especially for our youths, to whom he devoted a special attention and unique commitment.
"It seems the good die young" and, of course, he will be remembered like Abraham, Martin, and John and Bobby Kennedy. A real hero, Pete's legacy will continue in our memories and actions to carry on the social agenda he started to make Utah a better place in which to live.
Thanks, amigo, you were a true friend to all of Utah and especially Salt Lake's west side.
