I get so excited for the beginning of the college football season. I especially enjoy following the local college teams. But what is really annoying to me is the way the sports writers have to give out a report card on each of "the Big Three" teams.
Who do they think they are — the football teachers? Are the Utah linebackers trying to pass a class the Deseret News is offering? I would really like to read about what the sports writers think of our local college teams, but I find their practice of giving out grades so arrogant and self-assuming that I can't read the articles.
Sports writers, give us your opinions — but don't give out grades like you have the power to grant a master's degree to BYU's quarterbacks. I know you think it's cute, but it's obnoxious and you lose readers with your pompous attitude.
Being writers, you should have the ability to describe events and thoughts with words instead of playing school. If anybody gives out grades to the offensive linemen, it should be their coaches — or preferrably, their professors.
