The State Board of Pardons and Parole has scheduled the commutation hearing for convicted killer Elroy Tillman to resume Sept. 24.

Tillman's hearing will run through Sept. 26 at the Utah State Prison in Draper. Tillman, 66, is scheduled to die by lethal injection Oct. 12 at the prison.

The Board of Pardons vacated Tillman's June 24 execution date and postponed his original commutation hearing after lead defense attorney Loni F. DeLand suffered a severe heart attack one hour into the proceedings.

DeLand and his defense team will argue that Tillman, Utah's oldest death-row inmate, should have his death sentence commuted to life in prison. Tillman was convicted for the 1982 murder of Mark Schoenfeld.
