Sydney Hatch Allred, age 64, died at home after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her devoted husband, family and friends.
Sydney was born September 1, 1936 in Salt Lake City to Lou Wynne Hatch and Catherine Matilda Rigby. She graduated from South High School and attended the University of Utah. She married Gary Dean Allred May 24, 1956 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Sydney worked in Dr. Swithin Chandler's office for 17 years. As a member of the LDS Church, she served in many positions including Primary president, Relief Society president and secretary. She served as a volunteer in the South Jordan Family History Center. She spent many hours on her own family genealogy searching and gathering thousands of ancestral names and doing their temple work. She and Gary served an LDS mission in 1982 for 18 months at the Dixie Cotton Mission in St. George, Ut. in five visitor centers. Sydney was probably one of the youngest senior missionaries serving at that time. Sydney loved to sew and spent many hours on her hand work. She was generous with friends and family. Many remember the baby blankets and other gifts she made.
Preceded in death by her father Lou Wynne Hatch, Step-father, R. Dean Pedersen and her son Clark Dean (Corky) Allred. Sydney is survived by her mother Catherine R. Pedersen, West Jordan, husband Gary, daughters Debra (Joel) Gerbers, Atlanta, GA, Peggy (Larry) Bills, South Jordan, UT, Nancy (Karsten) Brooks, Woodland, CA and 12 grandchildren.
