OREM — The Utah Department of Transportation will hold an open house Wednesday evening to seek comment on a proposal to make the temporary concrete barriers along U.S. 189 in Provo Canyon permanent.

Transportation officials say the barriers placed at the Olmstead Junction and Wildwood areas have shown a capacity to prevent injuries and save lives during auto accidents in the canyon. UDOT is proposing to make the temporary barriers and guardrails a key part of its effort to increase safety in Provo Canyon.

An open house will be held Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Foothill Elementary School auditorium, 921 N. 1240 East in Orem.
