Cuban diplomats Friday denied their government was planning to send Elian Gonzalez to a U.N. children's assembly in New York this month.

"That is not true. We have denied that," an official at the Cuban Interests Section in Washington told Reuters.

Time magazine reported on its Web site that it had learned Cuban officials were "weighing" whether to send Elian, 7, to the U.N. General Assembly Special Session on Children in New York Sept. 19-21.

The conference, expected to be attended by 75 heads of state and governments, is a follow-up to the 1990 world summit on children.
