BILLINGS, Mont. — The Provo Angels' inaugural season ended Sunday night.

The Billings Mustangs rallied from a four-run deficit by scoring five runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Angels 5-4 and claim the 2001 Pioneer League championship.

Billings swept the best-of-three series from Provo 2-0. The Mustangs' victory marked the franchise's first league title since 1997.

Reliever Cleris Severino pitched the final seven innings to earn the win. The 19-year-old from the Dominican Republic allowed only four hits and struck out five.

With two out and the tying run on second base for Provo in the ninth inning, Severino made the final out of the game when he snared a comebacker by the Angels' Azarias Corbeil, ran to first base and stepped on the bag, touching off a jubilant celebration before 4,437 fans at Cobb Field.
