BYU

MWC HONORS: BYU football players Brandon Doman and Ryan Denney were named Mountain West Conference players of the week following the Cougars' 44-16 win over Pac-10 foe California on Saturday.

Doman was named offensive player of the week after throwing for three touchdowns and rushing for three more scores at Cal. He passed for 272 yards, completing 16 of 24 attempts, as he improved to 5-0 as BYU's starter.

Doman is the first BYU quarterback since Robbie Bosco in 1984 to win his first five starts

and first since Steve Sarkisian in 1996 to be responsible for six TDs in a game.

The Cougars lead the country in scoring offense with 55.3 points a game and are second in total offense at 606.7 yards per contest.

Denney, a senior defensive end, recorded two of BYU's five sacks, while also making seven tackles, including six solo stops. He also had a forced fumble that led to a BYU touchdown and deflected one pass.

The 24th-ranked Cougars will travel to No. 17 Mississippi State on Saturday. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.

Utah

CROSS COUNTRY: The Ute men's and women's cross country teams are off to Bozeman, Mont., on Saturday to compete in the Montana State Invitational. In addition to Montana State, the Utes will compete against Utah State and Montana. The men will run an 8K race at 9 a.m., while the women will compete in a 5K race at 9 a.m.

Utah's men finished third in the season-opening Idaho State Invitational last week, boosted by Teren Jameson's first-place finish. The women took fourth, led by Elise Greenwood, who ended fifth.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: The 2-1 University of Utah women's soccer team will take to the field to play Marquette and Montana this week. Both teams competed in the NCAA tournament last season.

On Thursday, the Utes will host Marquette. The Golden Eagles will bring a 3-1 record into the game, which begins at 5 p.m. at Ute Field. Montana (2-1) visits on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Utah is coming off a 1-0 squeaker against Arizona State last week. Katie Tate scored the lone goal, with an assist credited to Amy Kofoed. Keeper Courtney Hills registered the shutout.

Utah State

HONORS: Volleyball player Erin Cartwright has been named this week's Utah State athlete of the week.

Cartwright led Utah State to a third-place finish at the seventh annual Aston Imua Wahine Volleyball Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii over the weekend. She was the only player on the USU squad to be named to the all-tournament team as she led the Aggies with 37 kills during the weekend. She had a career-high 25 kills to go along with nine digs and five blocks against Cincinnati.

Weber State

WOMEN'S SOCCER: After dropping a 5-2 decision to the Air Force Academy on Friday, the Weber State women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season Sunday in record setting fashion with a 9-1 rout of Youngstown State.

Sophomore forward Natalie Hensley led the offensive explosion in the Youngstown win with two goals and three assists as Weber improved to 1-3-0. Junior midfielder Kami Kelley added two goals and one assist, freshman forward Kacey McDonald also netted two goals.
