Two men were arrested Tuesday and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail after allegedly kidnapping and robbing a fellow Chinese student from the University of Utah.

The victim had just finished a class Thursday night when he ran into two men he knew from China, officer Kevin Nollenberg said. The victim claims the men made him believe they had guns, he said.

The man was taken to a Wells Fargo bank at 235 S. 1300 East and ordered to withdraw money from the ATM, Nollenberg said. When the victim claimed he couldn't remember his PIN, the men took $400 from his wallet.

The student, who lives with his mother, was so scared that he put his mother on a plane back to China the next day, moved and withdrew from class, he said. He then called police.

One of the men was arrested at his apartment in Taylorsville. After he was arrested he called his wife to tell her what happened, Nollenberg said. The wife arrived at the University police station a short time later with another man.

When investigators began questioning the man they realized he was the other man allegedly involved in the kidnapping. Both were booked for investigation of aggravated robbery and kidnapping.

Nollenberg said investigators are expecting to question others in the case.
