PRICE- <! > James Owen Thayn, 77, died Sept. 16, 2001 in Price.

He was born the son of George Lester and Mary Worley Thayn, June 24, 1924 in Wellington. He attended school in Wellington, worked at Horse Canyon before enlisting in the Navy during World War II. He served on the destroyer USS Converse where he received 12 battle stars from the Battle of Vella LaVella to the Battle of Siapan. He served on the USS General Mann during the Korean conflict. He returned to Wellington where he married Margie Ruth Colby on Oct. 11, 1947, later divorced. He worked as an automobile salesman for various dealerships until his retirement at the age of 72. He was a long time member of the Carbon County Sheriff's Posse and loved riding horses.

He is survived by his children, Jim (Patricia) Thayn of New Castle, Colorado; Kathleen (James) Gregory of Salt Lake City; Jeff (Kim) Thayn of Riverton; Carol Anne Thayn and Craig Melendez of Sacramento;

11 grand-children and one great-grandchild. Also survived by brothers, Milton, Lon and John and sisters, Thelma Pierce, Georgia Mott and Lenna Beth Jones and longtime friend and companion Donna Gerhardt. Preceded in death by brothers William and Robert and sister Reva.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price where friends may call one hour prior to services. Fausett Mortuary will remain open Wed. until 9 p.m. for those who would wish to sign the register. Burial will be in the Wellington Cemetery.
