SPRINGVILLE — A donation bottle set out Saturday at the Flying J store here was removed Tuesday at the request of police and the Flying J corporate office.

Donations were being collected for a store employee whose family members were said to be missing in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York.

The employee, Steve Mendenhall of Springville, has declined to be interviewed by reporters.

Springville police visited the Flying J store and told the manager that unless the victims were identified, they could not ask the public for donations. No victims were identified on the donation bottle.

Flying J's corporate office in Ogden issued a companywide memo that said further collections of donations would be put on hold until a formal policy regarding donations for victims could be made.
