NEW YORK — The unpublished memoir of a 19th-century Supreme Court justice's wife — with a foreword by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg — is finally coming out.
The Modern Library announced Monday that Malvina Shanklin Harlan's "Some Memories of a Long Life, 1854-1911" will be published next spring.
"The Modern Library is proud to continue the work begun by Justice Ginsburg in bringing this remarkable woman's memoir to the American public," said David Ebershoff, publishing director of the Modern Library, an imprint of Random House Inc.
Harlan was married to John Marshall Harlan, a justice of the Supreme Court from 1877 until his death in 1911. The memoir was written in 1915, the year before her death. The transcript first appeared in the limited-circulation Journal of Supreme Court History.
