Lynne Cheney, wife of Vice President Dick Cheney, told third-graders during a visit to Pueblo, Colo., that the national media have been mispronouncing the vice president's last name.
She asked a Hispanic student if she pronounced his name correctly, then said: "No one ever gets my name right either. My name is CHEE'-nee, but everybody in the whole world says CHAY'-nee."
Lynne Cheney is an author who has worked to develop national standards for textbooks and teachers. On Friday, she visited Bessemer, recognized as one of 95 distinguished Title I schools designed to help disadvantaged children.
