From a small rustic home in North Carolina to multiplatinum-selling singer/songwriter, James Taylor has been the torch-bearer of popular folk music since he hit the big time with his 1970 smash album "Sweet Baby James."

Taylor will play the E Center tonight at 7:30. Tickets will be available at the door.

The singer/songwriter, once married to Carly Simon, has had his ups and downs in the music business. With a string of gold and platinum albums during the '70s, Taylor kept recording through the '80s and '90s.

His latest album is actually a second greatest hits collection, called "Greatest Hits Vol. 2." The tracks include the Top 40 trademark tunes "Handy Man," "Your Smiling Face" and "Her Town Too," his duet with J.D. Souther.

An enthusiastic environmentalist, Taylor has performed numerous benefit concerts for the Rainforest Foundation. The singer is working on a new album that will feature songs he is currently performing on tour.
