LAYTON — While the nation focused on the Eastern disasters, Layton residents and businesses turned their attention to a few of their own who needed a hand.

More than $21,000 was raised at a benefit event Thursday evening, which included entertainment, an auction, bake sale and dinner. All proceeds go to assist the seven families that were displaced by the landslide on Heather Drive in Layton, organizer Chad Hancey said.

A thousand people turned out in support of these families. All food, auction items and entertainment were donated. During the event, an announcement was made that a developer has donated land and labor to build a townhome in West Point. The proceeds from the sale of the home will go to aid these seven families.

He is urging subcontractors who wish to donate time or supplies to participate in this project. Because he and his partners wish to remain anonymous, anyone interested in participating may call Hancey at 546-0918.
