Nellie Jane Taylor Henderson passed away peacefully with her family at her side Sept. 20, 2001.
She was born March 3, 1920 in Provo, Utah to Thomas Sterling and Nellie Todd Taylor. Her childhood years were spent in Portland, Oregon, San Francisco, CA, Provo, Heber City, and Salt Lake City, Utah.
While attending Brigham Young University, Jane met Francis Marion Henderson of Wilmington, N.C. They were married May 23, 1941 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Raleigh, NC where their nine children were born.
While in Raleigh, Jane served as president of the first Raleigh, NC Latter-day Saints Children's Primary and on the Church's Mission MIA Board of the East Central States Mission.
She was a temple worker in the LDS Washington D.C. Temple from 1979 to 1989 before moving to Provo, Utah. She spent a lifetime in genealogical research.
Jane is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Francis Marion Henderson; her nine loving children, Nelson (Joyce) of Poway, CA; John (Carolyn) of Raleigh, NC; Janet (Tom) Walsman of Darnestown, MD; David (Janeel) of Fruit Heights, UT; Julia and Norma of Lindon, UT; Thomas (Valerie) of Carson City, NV; William of Kaysville, UT; and Nancy (Rick) Ferrin of Provo, UT.
She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Thomas Sterling Taylor, Jr. of Provo, Utah.
A viewing will be held at Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, on Sunday, Sept. 23 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant View 4th Ward Chapel, 2900 North 650 East, Provo, with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the LDS Church's Perpetual Education Fund.
