Auditions for upcoming productions at two Utah County venues — Thanksgiving Point and Hale Center Theater Orem — have been announced.

THANKSGIVING POINT RESORT needs Equity and non-Equity talent, including singers, dancers, actors, musicians and folk music ensembles for its three performing arts spaces — two amphitheaters and the soon-to-open Barn Theater.

Auditions will be Oct. 11-13 at two sites — from 3 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 11 and 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 13 in the Garden Room (second floor) at Thanksgiving Point Gardens, and on Oct. 12, from 6 to 9 p.m., in Room 29 of Knight Mangum Hall at Brigham Young University, 900 N. 700 East.

According to Brandon Spevak, director of marketing and events at Thanksgiving Point, the resort is looking for a variety of talent. The new Barn Theater, opening in December, has flexible facilities for dinner theater and standard "proscenium" theater productions.

Singers, both male and female, should come prepared to sing 16 bars of both a ballad and an up-tempo song. An accompanist and CD/cassette player will be provided.

Dancers (all types), should be prepared to perform a one- to two-minute routine of their own choice that best shows their abilities. Bring your own music.

Character actors and actresses are also needed. Come prepared to perform a short monologue or scene (one- to two-minutes total) or do cold readings from a script (provided), plus 16 bars of a song — comic song preferred.

Individual musicians being sought include fiddlers, string players (guitar, mandolin or banjo) and concertina. Come prepared to play a folk selection that shows your skill and versatility.

Small folk and other music ensembles are needed for both the Barn and the outdoor venues.

Equity performers should call 553-1951 to schedule an appointment. Those represented by agents should have them call the same number.

HALE CENTER THEATER OREM has scheduled auditions for "A Christmas Carol" for Sept. 29, by appointment only. Performers, 12 years of age and older, are needed. Come prepared to sing 16 bars of a traditional carol. All players should also be capable of speaking with a proper British or cockney accent.

In a departure from previous years, a separate choir may also be cast, with the possibility of "acting only" and "singing only" roles within the show. Those with excellent singing voices are encouraged to audition for the choir.

Merrill Dodge is directing the production, which opens Nov. 23 and runs through Dec. 22. To schedule an audition appointment, call 226-8600.
