PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — A boy whose right arm was reattached after it was bitten off by a shark now recognizes his family and responds to some instructions while recuperating at home, a hospital spokesman said.

Jessie Arbogast, 8, also can stand with help, though his injured leg remains weakened, spokesman Mike Burke said Friday.

He still cannot speak but has shown improvement since being sent home to Ocean Springs, Miss., in August after about a month at Sacred Heart Children's Hospital, Burke said.
