WASHINGTON — There was another sign Saturday that Michael Jordan's return is imminent.

A column in The Washington Post, without citing sources, said Jordan would confirm "early next week, probably Monday" his decision to play for the Washington Wizards this season.

Jordan all but confirmed his comeback to The Associated Press, CNN-SI and the Chicago Sun-Times on Sept. 10. At the time, Jordan planned to hold a news conference in Washington within 10 days, but last week's terrorist attacks prompted him to make the announcement more low key.

The Wizards are prepared to announce Jordan's return at a moment's notice, with staff essentially just waiting for him to give the final OK. Word definitely must come by Oct. 1, when the Wizards fly to Wilmington, N.C., for the start of training camp.

Jordan retired after the 1997-98 season after leading the Chicago Bulls to a sixth NBA title. He joined the Wizards in January 2000, becoming a part-owner and president of basketball operations.
