Shirley Mary Schell Selle, 73, died Sept. 21, 2001 at the Highland Care Center in Salt Lake City follow-ing a long illness.
Shirley was born May 9, 1928 in Salt Lake City to Edward and Vera Schell. She graduated from South High School and work-ed as a legal secretary and professional dan-cer. She married Fred Selle Aug. 5, 1950. Fred served as an officer in the United States Army and during his military career they lived in El Paso, TX, Pueblo, CO, Spokane, WA and six years in Germany where their son, Richard was born Feb. 9, 1956. Fred retired from the Army in 1969 and they returned to Salt Lake City. They later moved Garden City, UT near Bear Lake where they operated Selles Trading Post for a number of years before again moving back to Salt Lake. Shirley enjoyed oil painting, gardening, and collecting antiques.
Shirley is survived by her son, Richard, Orem; stepson, Fred III, Seattle; five grandchildren; and sisters, Gloria Erickson, Margie Schell, Salt Lake City; and Eddie Maddock, Sedona, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and stepson, Brad.
Shirley will be remembered for her keen sense of humor, sharp wit, and love of life. The family wishes to particularly thank Shirleys neighbors in Holladay who looked after her so well during her illness.
