JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Economic troubles have helped propel a 10 percent increase in enrollment at Florida's community colleges, with some South Florida schools reporting up to 20 percent more students this fall. Officials said many students want to improve their job skills in a troubled economy. Numbers released at a meeting of the Florida Board of Education prompted worries about lack of classroom space. The colleges may also suffer budget cutbacks this fall if state tax revenues continue to fall.
