Loving father, grandfather, and friend.

Born in Chicago, IL, Dick had a full and eventful life. He graduated from Blake Col-lege Prep Boys Private School Hopkins, MN, 1955. Joined USN NAVCAD Program, Pensa-cola, FL (released from program due to depth perception problem), 1958. Drafted by the USN, 1960. Honorably discharged, 1961. Resigned from SLCPD, 1963. Joined SL Co. Sheriff's Office, 1965. That fall started the SL Co. K-9 Corps under Sheriff G. Q. Neilson. Served as Lieutenant for 14 years with no disciplinary action (though he was well known for his willingness to disagree with those in authority). Earned a BS degree in sociology from the University of Utah, 1971. Retired from SL Co. Sheriff's Office due to chronic back pain, 1985, with more than 19 years service. After several surgeries his health continued to decline; after a long history of smoking he was diagnosed with emphysema in 1998 and congestive heart failure in 2000. Known as "Crazy" to those who loved him. Known for his humor, laughter, and fix-it-up nature.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy; two sons, Richard, Bryan; four grandchildren, Patsy, Eliza, Richard, Harold; mother, Mildred; brother, James; many other family members; and many friends who were as family to him.

We all loved him dearly and already miss him terribly.

Private viewing for family and friends to be held at Garner Funeral Home, 1001 11th Ave, Salt Lake City, Tues. Sept 25, 2001, 6:30 p.m. to be followed by cremation.
