Two teams are headed out of state this weekend, while a pair of Utah County invitationals will draw just about everyone else as the state's prep cross country runners continue their early season competitions.
Defending national champion Mountain View will take its top boys and girls teams to San Francisco as part of the Great American Race series. The Bruins will run against other top schools from the western United States on the legendary Golden Gate Park course Saturday morning. Following the race, the Mountain View contingent will travel across the bay to Berkeley, where they'll watch the BYU Cougars battle the Golden Bears of Cal in an afternoon football game.
Mountain View was invited to this race in part due to its performance at the Great American Race event held in North Carolina last year. The Bruins will also be traveling back to that race in two weeks, joining Bingham and Davis from the Beehive State.
Meanwhile, the Bingham Miners are doing some traveling of their own, heading to Boise for the Bogus Valley Invitational. Coach Jeff Arbogast's teams will race Saturday morning in the Gem State.
Most everyone else is competing in Friday's Spanish Fork Invitational or Saturday's Provo Invitational. The Spanish Fork meet Friday afternoon begins at 3 p.m., while Provo's event, held at the Kiwanis Park on the east side of town, begins with JV girls races at 10 a.m., followed by boys JVs at 10:30, varsity girls at 11 and varsity boys at 11:30 a.m.
