Students who make a habit of being truant from schools in Granite District may have to cough up a $48 fine under new policy adopted by the district board.
The fee is subject to annual review. The policy also must provide a way for students to work off the fine if they want to.
In its regular board meeting this week, the board also approved purchase of 12 acres of land at approximately 3100 S. 6800 West for a future elementary school. The purchase price of approximately $49,000 per acre will make a total expenditure of $590,646 for the site. A second property purchase involving 4.5 acres west of Hunter High School was approved for approximately $225,000. It will be used for a soccer field and softball diamond.
The board also approved awarding of a contract for classroom additions and remodeling at Redwood Elementary to Brubaker Construction for $2.5 million. An award to build a replacement facility for Olympus Junior High School was made to Union Pointe construction at $13.7 million.
