Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and director David Mamet believes his latest movie captures the violence of America.

In Italy to present "Heist" at the Venice Film Festival, Mamet said the film's violence makes it a good metaphor for America. "Heist" screened to rave reviews Sunday at the festival.

An ironic tribute to the film noir classics of the 1940s, "Heist" stars Gene Hackman as a cool and charismatic ex-con who plots the jewelry theft of his career after his partners-in-crime turn on him.
